With shoppers becoming more environmentally conscious and the industry boasting the potential to become more eco-friendly, we asked toy and game creators what the design community can do to help make the toy space greener.

“A sold-out TOTY Awards gala underscores the health and vitality of the toy manufacturing and retail community as we focus on building successes in year ahead together,” said Steve Pasierb, president and CEO of The Toy Association.

“We’re creating a new type of play where the physical world actually influences the AR layer, instead of the other way around,” said LEGO’s Tom Donaldson.

Against a backdrop of new regulation, evolving consumer expectations, and global sustainability initiatives, Mark Robertson, SVP at the Ethical Toy Program, explains why now is the time to embrace ethical manufacturing.

Concept was submitted by LEGO Ideas members Grant Davis and Jason Allemann in August 2016, before being adapted into the official LEGO version by LEGO designer Wesley Talbott.

During the first half of the year, the top-performing themes were LEGO Technic, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Creator and LEGO Classic.

New report also shows that playtime is being squeezed, with nearly a third of families spending less than five hours playing together every week.

“We wish to deal with the challenge that some parents might have with the wonderful mess that play creates,” said LEGO.

“The Danish team’s invention furthers an understanding of technology from an early age and could inspire the next generation of IT talent in Europe,” said EPO president Benoît Battistelli.

‘This review round features a fascinating variety of designs, including several that are focused on aviation and nostalgic shows,’ said LEGO.
