E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and Mattel is marking the milestone with the launch of a collectable plush.
Featuring sounds and a light-up finger, the stylised soft doll measures around 11-inches tall and boasts a plush body and moulded plastic head. Fans can press its finger for a soft red glow and to hear iconic phrases such as “E.T. Phone Home”.
“We went through dozens of sketches and stylisations because we wanted to make sure that we captured E.T.’s sweet, child-like innocence through the sculpt,” said Jan Jauregui, manager of product design at Mattel.
“Aside from making his proportions even cuter with a larger head and smaller body, we put a lot of emphasis on his eyes!”
