Blok.Party merges digital and physical gaming with PlayTable
San Francisco-based tech start-up Blok.Party has lifted the lid on PlayTable, its new tabletop video game console.
Boasting a large touchscreen, PlayTable allows players to control the on-screen action with hands, smartphones and physical game pieces set directly on top of it.
PlayTable’s operating system is built with the Ethereum blockchain, allowing players to use their own custom-created toys in gameplay, get personalised stats and abilities when playing and trade items with other players.
“I grew up on and love tabletop gaming,” stated Jimmy Chen, CEO and co-founder of Blok.Party.
“An unfortunate part of my adulthood has been an increased difficulty in getting together with friends in real life to laugh, scheme and have fun together. We made PlayTable to bring people together and rediscover the magic of the communal gaming experience.”
PlayTable is available to pre-order for $349 (it will normally cost $599) and includes Battlegrid, a card-driven fantasy battle game where characters fight head-to-head.
