Exploding Kittens animated series to land on Netflix in 2023

An adult animated series based on Exploding Kittens is coming to Netflix.

Inspired by the popular card game, the Exploding Kittens show will follow God and the Devil as they are sent to Earth in the bodies of chunky house cats.

Alongside the show, Netflix is also developing an Exploding Kittens mobile game that will launch on the platform next month.

Exploding Kittens: The Game retains the same gameplay as the card game – where players draw cards aiming to avoid the Exploding Kitten – but this version will introduce two new cards, Radar and Flip Flop. Radar reveals the position of the Exploding Kitten closest to the top of the card deck, while Flip Flop reverses the order of the cards in the deck

Future cards and game mechanics in Exploding Kittens: The Game will be themed around the animated series.

“The co-development of a game and animated series breaks new ground for Netflix,” said Mike Moon, Head of Adult Animation at Netflix.

Matthew Inman, Exploding Kittens Chief Creative Officer and Creator of The Oatmeal, added: “Netflix is the only service that could bring Exploding Kittens to life in both a series and a game.

“We actually launched Exploding Kittens on Kickstarter as a weekend project, but our community has been the heart and soul of the company over the past six years. The new series and game will give our fans new ways to connect and interact with the franchise.”
