Jooki, Hugimals and Mattel’s Dr Jane Goodall Barbie doll make TIME’s Best Inventions of 2022
The Jooki smart speaker, Mattel’s Dr Jane Goodall doll and Hugimals made it into TIME Magazine’s 100 Best Inventions of 2022 list.
To assemble the list, TIME solicited nominations across a variety of categories from its editors and correspondents around the world, as well as through an online application process. Then TIME evaluated each contender based on key factors, including originality, ambition and impact.
The Jooki speaker lets children stream songs and parent–curated audio content by plugging different tokens and figurines into the device, while the Jane Goodall doll is part of the Barbie Inspiring Women Series and is made from a minimum of 75% recycled plastic.
Hugimals is a line of weighted stuffed toys, whose glass-bead filling gives the sensation of being hugged.
Away from the core list, there was also a special mention for Cubles, a line of cardboard build-your-own-toys.
Toys and games featured slightly more prominently in TIME’s 2021 list, which included Sphero indi, Thomas & Kosmos’ Mega Cybog Hand, Storytime Chess and LEGO’s recycled brick.
