“As shoes represent very organic objects, made from flexible material, it was a fun challenge to translate this into the LEGO System in Play, which by nature is square and blocky,” said LEGO’s Florian Müller.
“LEGO play lets children unleash their imaginations, and we’re so excited Luigi has arrived to help them create even more LEGO Super Mario adventures,” said LEGO’s Julia Goldin.
As well as receiving $10,000 to use towards their creative and educational endeavours, the Kid Creative Director will help create content for a LEGO launch this summer.
Fans can vote on LEGO Ideas for the theme they’d like to return as a single new set, with Bionicle, Dragon Knights and Time Cruisers in the mix.
“The customisable elements and mindful building experience will hopefully help them express their personality as their creativity blossoms,” said LEGO Design Lead Jamie Berard.

Firm will be phasing out single-use plastic bags from LEGO boxes in latest move to make all packaging sustainable by 2025.
The collection features the first-ever flexible LEGO baseplate, onto which fans can create their own customised designs using LEGO DOTS.
