Tense UK Rummikub Championship ends with win for first-time entrant
Lee Wythe, from Chester, England, took first place in the UK Rummikub Championship on Friday 31st May. After a tense series of five rounds, 36-year-old Lee emerged triumphant. Lee was one of 40 contenders in a field that saw the return of two previous tournament winners. Straight after his win, Lee told onlookers: “I’m a huge Rummikub fan; I’m thrilled to have won… The pressure was nerve-racking – it was such a close final! Huge credit to the other finalists.”
Lee will now go on to represent the UK at the Rummikub World Championship. This will take place in The Old Town in Gdańsk, Poland, from 6-9th September, with competitors from over 30 countries.
Hosted annually by John Adams Leisure, the UK Rummikub Championship sees players compete in truly intense rounds of the ever-popular game. The winner walks away with a £250 cash prize, an IDEAL games bundle – and bragging rights.
Presiding over this year’s competition, the Marketing Manager for John Adams, Lynette Leet, told us: “Rummikub continues to bring people together. The game is a family classic, loved by fans the world over. Our annual tournament is hugely popular and remains a great way for UK fans to connect and play. We wish Lee the best of luck in the official World Championship this September.”
